Kurapika by uniqueguy Kurapika by uniqueguy
Another HunterxHunter drawings (yay :la:)
This one is Kurapika, and he... He's kinda awesome (obviously :P). I actually drew this over a few days so I didn't really rush this as much as I usually do. :X
Also my lighter blue marker ran out exactly as I finished, I love it when things go just perfect! =D

I used copic markers, they are pretty expensive but quite nice.

No problem at all! =)
I tried some Copic markers out at the craft store a while back. They were amazing.
Currently I'm the proud owner of one single Prisma Color marker.
Copic had colors I needed that Prisma didn't.

Well as far as I know Prisma Color markers are a little paler while Copics are much brighter... I kinda wanna see what Prisma colors are like now :P

This will probably sound crazy, but Prisma Color seems.. watery? Not so much paler as much as a different consistency. There isn't much of a variety to flesh tones, unfortunately. 'Peach' is the marker I have and use for skin tones. It is darker than I need for it to be, though.
Their color pencils, which I also have one of, are very decent. I have a set of Artist Loft color pencils as well, which are useless for the most part. The texture they leave is very tacky and doesn't get good coverage.

Watery? Sounds like a pain, I'm sure it will leave marks as you draw (like brush lines :P), but it's probably quite good for blending with.

You should try to invest in some Faber-Castell pencils, I've heard they are quite good. If you feel like sticking with colouring pencils you might as well get the best ones :X

If you see an apple I suggest you visit your nearest mental hospital... Permanently!

This looks kool man. You should edit out the blue marker drips on the arm and hand tho lol. Did you do this with a reference or no? It is proportioned quite well.

Hey, thanks a lot! =D
I actually did use reference for this; there was an image which looked almost like mine, but just different in a few ways. I changed it around to suit what I wanted. :P

Also as for the blue drips, they will stay there as a sign of my failure so I shall never do it again! :X

keep it up man ur getting better. Really push yourself and try to do some without references. I know when i first started no ref. It was horrible lol

Without references? I don't see a reason I should stop using references, as long as the reference is not the image you are drawing. Without references it's not as easy to draw stuff, and it's the final outcome that matters not what you used to get there...

But then again it does feel better to draw without any help! :P

lol Thats not really the point. What I mean is, its not a matter of stealing others artwork or poses (although sometimes it feels that way when i use them myself). Its more to help your "minds eye" when drawing manga figures. your art work will get leaps and bounds better if you draw using the box method (imagine the body as simple boxes and circles. If you have been doing it then do it more lol. After you get good enough to not use references, then you wont need them so much. I only use references if I'm at a loss for a pose after a few pages lol. Honestly, I hated to NOT use references at first. But I hate to tell you, you are good so you may be hitting a point where you won't be able to grow your style more without figure drawing (no ref). Its funny because a guy named Cornelius on DA gave me the exact same advice when I was in your shoes a few years ago (he had sweet action poses with no references) lol It really depends what your goal is. If you want to make your own manga some day, then there is no getting around this one lol Good luck man. (you are gonna hate ur art for a while until you get it right, i know i did) hahaha

Oh, I see...
Yeah, everything you said is quite true. I do hate my art, although everyone else says it's fine...

I guess in some way art is based on experiences, you use references in order to fill the experience gap, and once you have use the reference you may know how to do that particular pose, therefore gaining experience... Or I guess that's what you were trying to say (maybe not, I'm bad at interpreting things :X)

So yeah, I learned a lot. Thanks as usual! :icongrin--plz:

That's exactly what I meant! The more you practice poses, the easier it will be to remember them and eventually you can create your own that will look like a reference (and others might ref you!)
